How to Cut the Cost of Getting Your Hair Done

hair-cutAs a busy mum of two boys, getting my hair cut and coloured is one of those rare times that I get to feel relaxed and pampered.  However, recent studies have shown that the average British woman will spend around £40,000 on her hair in her lifetime. But do we have to spend that much money just to have nice hair?

As I mentioned before, for most of us busy women getting our hair done is ‘our time’. It is a time when we can sit still for longer than 10 minutes without feeling guilty, we can read magazines that we would never get chance to read otherwise and we can walk out of the salon feeling like a pampered princess. But seriously, £40,000 is a LOT of money, so how can we save money on our hair without losing that pampered feeling?

Shop around

I know myself that trying out a new hairdresser can be a nerve-racking experience. We can work ourselves up worrying about whether the stylist will understand what it is that we want and even if they do understand, will they do a good job?

Even though there are things that might put us off shopping around, it could be well worth our while if we do find a salon that we like and that will save us money.

A good way to shop around for a new salon is to do it over the phone. Using the internet to find all of the salons in your area and then phoning them up to find out their prices will save you a lot of time. It will also stop you from feeling pressured into booking an appointment which could happen if you were to shop around in person.

Do it yourself

A lot of women are now using home dye kits*. Depending on the colour and your hair type this could be a very simple and effective way to save some money.

Don’t worry though, dying your own hair doesn’t mean that you have to miss out on that lovely pampered feeling that you get from the salons. You will still need to get your hair cut and styled. So your well earned relaxation time is still there. 🙂

Mobile hairdressers

A great way of saving money on your hair without having to even leave the comfort of your own home is to find a great mobile hairdresser.

This is a lot easier to do nowadays because a lot of mobile hairdressers now have their own websites for you to check out their prices and you can also have a look at their pictures to see what cuts they have already done. By doing this you will get a real feel for the hairdresser and you should be able to tell if they will be able to give you a style that you want.

Also, don’t worry that the cheap prices of a mobile hairdresser will reflect on the quality of the cut you get. The reason that they are able to charge a lot less is because they don’t have the overheads that running a salon brings. So you can just sit back, relax and enjoy your fantastic savings.

So by either shopping around, dying your own hair or changing to a mobile hairdresser you will be able to save money and still feel great.

Do you have any tips on how to spend less on your hair?
