Isaac my 5 year old has been dodging chicken pox since he started school last September. It seems to come and go in waves but when I learned that his best friend was off school with it, I just knew it was going to be his turn soon.
In all honesty I’m quite glad that we’re going to get it over and done with. I’m a bit of a control freak and not knowing when it was going to happen was frustrating to say the least.
Getting Through the Day
We are currently on day 5 and so far it’s going ok. He has camped out on the sofa under ‘Grandmas poorly blanket’ since Sunday which he seems quite content with.
I have found out that it is impossible to say no to anything that will make him feel better, so we have sat through 2 series of Go Diego Go which now means that I have the theme tune playing over and over in my head – at least I’m learning a bit of Spanish whilst going slightly insane. He has even been teaching me super cute gorilla sign language 🙂 it’s crazy how much they can learn from a cartoon.
To pass the time (and distract him from the telly for at least some of the day) we have also been making our own book. Like most young families today The Gruffalo plays a big part at story time, which I can’t complain about because I think I love it just as much. So Isaac decided to make The Gruffalos’ Child book. Even though it is such a simple idea it has really helped us. He has loved copying the pictures and writing the story out using all the colours in his pencil case. It may sound silly but it definitely makes a difference to my state of mind too. Watching him practising his hand writing and spelling and being creative makes me worry less about him missing over a week of school. His brain will not turn to mush!
Is There Ever a Good Time?
Unfortunately the timing with regards to school hasn’t been that great. It is the last week before the summer holidays which also means it is his final week in reception. So my poor boy has missed the school trip (which I already paid for) and his first sports day. Thankfully all of this has completely slipped his mind but being his mum I do feel a bit gutted for him. I will be making a trip over to pick up his school report and find out who his teacher will be in September – very exciting 🙂
Making the Most of Being at Home
My boys decided this morning that they want to have a party at home for just us four. They wrote a list of the things we need which included bunting, balloons, party food, lights and a trampoline (obviously lol). I think it is a great idea, even though he is missing out on what is probably the best week of school in the whole year it doesn’t mean that we can’t have a fun time at home for him. So an end of reception party is coming up 🙂
