My Well-Crafted Schedule Just Went Out of the Window

August 14, 2015 By: Abi1 Comment

LINKS MARKED * ARE AFFILIATE LINKS.

multi-tasking-mumI usually like to sit down and share with you some ideas or tips on how to save money. Today however, all I feel like I can do is vent my frustration on how my well-crafted schedule has completely gone out the window!

I’m sure that all of you mothers know exactly why my schedule has gone to pot. The summer holidays have arrived! Yes, it’s that time of year again, when the kids are off for 6 weeks. Argh!!

Obviously I love having my boys with me at home, and I love not having to set my alarm for 6:20 every morning to do the school run. Plus, we are actually able to slow down, just a little bit, which does feel great.

However, no matter how much I would love to think that I can be on holiday just like the kids, us mothers just aren’t that lucky.

Having a schedule

Having a schedule is incredibly important for me. I’m unable to live a hectic life without any order. So for me to be able to cope with a never ending list of places to go and things to do, I need a schedule.

Since my children started school and nursery, I have been able to work my most demanding jobs into a time when they aren’t at home. This way I don’t feel stressed when they come home because my housework is done, everything is clean and tidy, and I can enjoy my time with my boys. I have also worked things so that my time to write for this blog is after the kids have gone to bed. I have to do it this way because on the odd occasion when I have tried to sit down and write whilst Isaac and Malachi have been up, well, let’s just say I didn’t get very far. So for me, my schedule is a life saver (I’m trying not to be too dramatic but I really think it is, lol).

Not having a schedule

Now that the boys are off, the schedule just doesn’t seem possible to keep. We are spending our days going out and about, trying to burn off their endless amounts of energy. I’m then rushing around the house whenever I get the chance, just to try and catch up on my housework.

When we are at home, it doesn’t get any easier either. Our boys have a real love for crafts. Which means that the dining room table is constantly covered in googly eyes, pom poms, card, felt tips and all things little and annoying to clean up. And of course, I get to spend a lot of time making their little creations with them, which I wouldn’t change for the world. 🙂

With all of the extra things that we are doing, their usual bedtime routine seems to have vanished as well. During term time they are always in bed by 7:45. Right now however, 8:30 seems to have claimed itself as the boys new time for bed.

Just recently I picked up a little cleaning job from a lady on my street. It’s a great little job, just 2 hours once a week and then I have a bit of extra money to spend on days out for the kids, which I love. But as much as I love having the extra money, it is yet another job that I’ve had to add to the madness. Oh dear!

Getting on with it

I know that I sound like I’m just having a good old moan and I suppose in a way I am, but in all honesty I LOVE having my boys with me during the holidays. I just need to forget the schedule until September comes and they are back at school. Things are still getting done, I am just exhausted. But then, what mother out there isn’t? It’s a hard job, but I wouldn’t change it for the world!

So how about you, have you managed to stick to your routine whilst the kids are off school?

Good for you that you found an extra work, 2 hours a week is not bad. My daughter usually sleeps at 9 P.M. and she wakes up at 6:00 A.M.
