If there is one question that I have been asking myself for a while now it’s this, should I buy a steam cleaner? It’s a question that has been in my head for ages so I thought I’d share just a few of the reasons why I have been thinking about buying a steam cleaner for so long and also why I think I’m finally ready to make the leap.
How much easier will cleaning be with a steam cleaner?
Firstly my house has a few large windows which are great for making the rooms feel light and airy but on the other hand they are an absolute pain to keep clean, especially as my two boys just love to leave yucky hand prints all over them on a daily basis. A bit like when an animal marks its territory by leaving its scent, my kids clearly feel the need to mark every room as their territory with their own individual hand prints, thanks! So the thought of being able to easily clean them without having the mess of the squidgy, scrim and bowl of soapy water getting everywhere does sound rather tempting.
Another reason that I have been looking into steam cleaners* is for my bathroom. It’s tiled from floor to ceiling and at only 5” tall, trying to reach the tiles at the top is an impossible task. Not forgetting the mirror and shower screen that just don’t like to stay sparkling for longer than a day. So I do wonder whether a steam cleaner would really make it easier for me to keep on top of such a difficult room to clean.
I am definitely curious about all of the attachments that come with most steam cleaners as well, just where and what can I clean with scrapers and detail nozzles? I know I’m sad but I love the idea of just blasting through dirt and grime that I currently find difficult to get at! 🙂
Environmentally Friendly
So as you can tell there are quite a few reasons why I have been considering a steam cleaner, but I think that the biggest positive for buying one is that you can give your whole house a really thorough clean without using any harmful cleaning products. This a real plus point for me because as much as I love to make sure that I am giving my children a safe and clean environment to live in I don’t like the thought of them inhaling the powerful chemical smells you get from the cleaning products. I do wonder why I let them breathe in all of these chemicals that I know nothing about when I try my best not to fill them full of rubbish in their food and drinks, it just doesn’t make sense to me. I’ve even resorted to making my own homemade environmentally friendly cleaning products recently too.
It would also help me cut down drastically on my recycling. I wouldn’t need 4 different cleaning products for each room anymore so that must make some sort of positive impact on the environment, even if it is only small.
So to answer the question at the beginning of this post ‘Should I buy a steam cleaner?’ for me personally the answer is yes. As you can see there are quite a few reasons why I would like to give one a go and it will be interesting to see if they really are all that they’re cracked up to be. The steam cleaner that I am going to try is the VAX S5*, it’s not the latest model that they have but from the videos and reviews that I have read it looks like it will do all that I want it to and at £63.99 from John Lewis* I think that the price is decent too.
As soon as I have tried and tested each aspect of the machine I will write a review of the VAX S5 cleaner myself to let you know how I got on.
How about you, are you thinking about buying a steam cleaner?
