We all love to grab a bargain, don’t we? But would you be willing to get up at 4am to do it? To be honest it’s not even just getting up at 4 am but actually being in the queue and being ready to grab a bargain!
It sounds like absolute madness. So why do so many people do it? What is it that makes them set their alarm to go off in the middle of the night (or not go to sleep at all), throw on some clothes and head out to the shopping centre at such an inconvenient time?
There could be a number of reasons that would make somebody decide to join the thousands that hit the shops at this mad hour when the sales begin. Here are a few examples.
Shopping for your unborn child
As little as they are, everybody knows just how expensive babies can be, especially if it is your first and you have the wonderful task of buying everything that is needed for the baby. But even if this is your second or third child, we all like to get new things for them, yes it might not be a new cot or baby bath but I’m sure that I’m not alone in not wanting to only have hand me downs for the new addition. Yes they are fantastic to have and it is really quite sweet to reuse the old baby grows but who can resist all of the beautiful clothes and blankets the shops are full of? So heading out to the sales is a great way to treat yourself and baby without feeling too guilty.
Holiday shopping
Whether you are going on a beach holiday in Barbados or an adrenaline packed holiday up the French Alps you can always kit you and your family out in the sales. You just need to plan ahead and pick the right season to shop in. If you can shop in the sales for your holiday clothes then it would be well worth your while. Not only can you enjoy all of your new outfits and accessories when you’re away, but you can feel proud of the fact that you saved a load of money which has been added to your holiday spending fund. Bonus!
The thrill of the bargain
For some of us we don’t need any excuse to hit the sales. It is purely about the deals. The thrill of picking up those knee high leather boots you have been eyeing up for months but you stopped yourself from buying them the first moment you saw them for this exact reason. They are now yours and for only half the price! Just to head out to the sales with only your hand bag on your shoulder and to come home with so many shopping bags that you have to step through your door sideways is a great feeling. 🙂
As for me, I have to be honest and say that I haven’t done a proper shop like this in the sales for a few years. Yes I’ve always nipped over to pick up a few things, but only when the madness has died down. Since having the boys I just haven’t really relished the idea of being surrounded by 1000s of shopping mad women pushing and shoving their way through the crowds. However this year I have decided to go with one of my best friends on her mad shopping trips, the kind of shopping trip where we queue outside of NEXT* at 4am waiting to get in and start shopping. The reason I’ve decided to join in with the madness is because she always talks about how she can kit her two kids out for the whole year in that one act of madness. I quite fancy this idea so I’m going to give it a go. At least that’s what I’m telling myself now. 😉
How about you, would you get up at 4am just to grab a bargain?
