As a Wife and Mum one of the things that I enjoy doing most is creating a comfortable and homely atmosphere in our house for my family, and I know that I’m not alone in this. This hobby can, however, create a bit of a problem and that is keeping our spending down whilst trying to create the beautiful home that we can picture so clearly.
So, the question is, how can we create the homely atmosphere that we want without spending a fortune? Well, here are 6 budget items that can help you do just that.
1.Chalk Paint
Chalk paint* (or any other paint that you prefer to use) is a great way to give your boring old furniture a new lease of life. You can paint anything that you like such as your dining table and chairs, TV unit, some shelves or even your wardrobe. I can honestly say that this is one of the most effective ways to create a whole new look in your home.
2.Cushion Covers
If you fancy adding something a bit special to your room then this can easily be done with a few unique and beautiful cushion covers. Cushion covers can cost quite a lot if you are planning on heading over to your favourite interior design boutique. However, there are other options. For instance, cheaper high street stores such as T.K.Maxx* and Matalan* are just a couple of the shops that are always keeping up with the trends and sell them for great prices. Personally, I think that making your own is a very simple and satisfying way to save money. This way you can also choose your own design and style, making them totally unique.
3.Candles
Whether they are scented Yankee candles, tea lights or lanterns, candles create a relaxing and homely atmosphere. There are always candle holders around that you can pick up at very low prices, plus the tea lights themselves really don’t cost a lot to keep stocked up on, you can usually find a bag of 100 tea lights for around £4.00
4.Towels
There is something about getting out of a warm relaxing bath and wrapping yourself up in an old, scruffy towel that just doesn’t seem right. Buying a set of towels* could end up costing you a small fortune if you don’t shop smartly, though. You can pick up towels at prices that are more budget friendly from places like Ikea and Amazon.
5.Mugs
It doesn’t matter whether you’re a coffee lover or a tea addict, relaxing in a comfortable armchair with a hot drink in a beautiful mug really can bring great satisfaction (even if it’s only a little thing). I like to keep a look out for gorgeous mugs and wine glasses* and then wait until they get reduced. It is bound to happen sooner or later, so a little bit of patience can save you a penny or two.
6.Children’s Bedding
Getting your children’s room looking lovely must be the most satisfying room of all, and finding bargain duvet sets is a great way to do this. Buying new bedding sets* is just as effective as redecorating the whole room.
